VersaWave with 5G from Honeywell

Honeywell's latest innovation, VersaWave with 5G, is a compact satellite communications system designed for advanced aerial mobility (AAM) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This system seamlessly blends satellite and cellular (5G, 4G, 3G) connectivity, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth in a lightweight and compact form. It allows operators to maintain uninterrupted control of flying taxis and drones beyond their visual line of sight. The development involved a team in Brno, Czech Republic, and it is co-funded by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and the European Space Agency. VersaWave with 5G offers global real-time video streaming, remote configuration, and easy transitions between cellular and satellite networks. It's undergoing qualification and certification, with commercial availability planned for the fourth quarter of 2023, providing an upgrade path for existing VersaWave users. This innovation is poised to benefit both commercial and defense customers in the AAM and UAS market.

Honeywell Brno: Advancing Space Technology

Honeywell's research and development center in Brno is venturing into space with a groundbreaking project. Engineers at this cutting-edge facility have contributed to the Proba-3 mission, a collaboration with the European Space Agency set to launch in 2024. This mission aims to unravel the mystery of why the solar corona is hotter than the Sun itself, conducting close-up studies of the solar edge. Notably, it will investigate coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that impact space weather and Earth. For Proba-3 to succeed, two satellites must maintain precise formation in space, requiring millimeter accuracy. Honeywell's microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology plays a crucial role, offering solutions for satellite positioning and stabilization. These innovations have broader applications, from optical communication to satellite tracking in the growing commercial space sector. Honeywell's cost-effective and lightweight MEMS technology ensures satellites can navigate safely and efficiently in an increasingly crowded and challenging space environment.
